This time I used a thicker wire, one that I would likely use in my final outcome. I used a wooden manikin to mold the wire frame around. I did this to make it quicker as this is just a practise piece.
I made a front and a back piece and joined them together with pliers at the sides with thinner wire that was easier to bend. I made sure that this was not noticeable and as neat as possible as I wanted it to be funcitional and not necessarily part of the design. My goal was to make the body fairly symmetrical so it was easier to get the right form. I was unsure whether to keep the frame simple or add more wire wrapping around to show the contours of the body but decided that I liked it how it was. I may take the other approach in my next trial.

I made the arms separately, starting with a loop at the "shoulder/armpit", going down one side, making a simplified hand and going up the opposite side. When I got back to the loop I threaded it through and went back down towards the hand where I made a loop for the wrist. I continued back up, making a loop for the elbow and joined back up to the base of the arm. I joined them to the torso by coiling a small, thin piece of wire.
This was much more time consuming than I expected. I think this is because I was working on a small scale which meant that the wire was more difficult to bend into shape. Although it was a very frustrating process, I am pleased with the outcome. The proportions are correct and it resembles the form of the arms.
